Assuli, which in the local dialect means »under the sun«, brings together tradition and innovation in a stunning setting in western Sicily. The winery currently covers approximately 130 hectares, divided into five plots: Carcitella – the largest, at 65 hectares – Fontanabianca, Segesta, Besi and Scorace. The vineyards between Mazara del Vallo and Trapani benefit from conditions perfectly suited to growing native varieties, including Nero d'Avola, Zibibbo, Insolia, Lucido, Grillo, Perricone and Syrah. The signature wines are 100% organic and are a genuine reflection of the region's terroir. This choice further underlines a commitment to a model of sustainable growth built on the principles of conservation, resource enhancement, and respect for the environment and health.

Assuli is the result of a careful, detailed restoration of an 18th-century baglio (a farmstead built around a central courtyard), respecting the building's original character while meeting the demands of functionality and economic efficiency. This connection to the land is the common thread of a story that began in 1948, when Cav. del Lavoro Dr. Giacomo Caruso — a successful Sicilian entrepreneur and a key figure in the area's economic development — recognised the potential of "Perlato di Sicilia", the marble quarried on nearby Mount Cofano. Alongside the growth of its stone business, the Caruso family kept its roots firmly in the land, and in 2000 expanded the country estate it had owned since the previous century. Thanks to the careful preservation of traditional methods for processing home-grown grapes, Assuli has gone on to produce outstanding organic wines that have won numerous awards around the world.

Today the family's third generation – Roberto, Nicoletta and Michele – is leading the company toward new goals, translating age-old expertise into every bottle and creating wines of complete authenticity and unmistakable character. Each bottle tells a fascinating story, a testament to the uniqueness that defines Assuli.

Vina Assuli are the expression of winemaker Lorenzo Landi, who was born in Tuscany and graduated with honors in agricultural sciences from the University of Pisa. Lorenzo gained experience in viticulture and winemaking in Italy and abroad, including in Bordeaux and Burgundy. Thanks to his meticulous guidance, Assuli wines continue to be confirmed as the most awarded, both at home and abroad. The refined judgment of James Suckling, one of the world's most important wine critics, has once again confirmed the quality already well established among wine lovers in Sicily. In his latest review in 2022, he awarded the Lorlando '19 a score of 93/100, describing it as 'Juicy and jammy red with slightly stewed cherries and a dry-earth character. Medium body, subtle tannins and a flavorful finish. Linear and fresh. Drink now'. Great satisfaction also came from the high score awarded to the Passito '17, winner of a silver medal at the prestigious Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. As a mark of excellence in the name of elegance and refined flavors, Passito di Grillo is a sophisticated and complex wine for contemplation. It is made using the drying technique: on racks, outdoors, allowed to dry naturally, the grapes begin to lose freshness in order to reach a more concentrated level of sugar and nutrients. A wine that expresses all the power and energy of Sicilian wine: the sun that bathes the Grillo grapes, vinified with a purity that fully respects the varietal characteristics of one of the most recognizable white grape varieties of Western Sicily.

The winning card is also the choice of wine names, which are undoubtedly attractive and original. Each of them actually represents a character from the 16th-century epic poem "Orlando Furioso" and depicts an epic and distinctive journey to the boundaries of imagination, rich with many associations to Sicilian art and literature. Let us now look at the values that each of them expresses: the theme of love with Donna Angelica and Orlando, in which the force of passion prevails; the theme of war with Ruggiero, who fights to show his strength and courage; and the theme of individualism with Dardinello, who acts on instinct and without stating reasons. Just as these characters are protagonists in a polyphonic work, our wines are able to reach out to the public through an interwoven fabric of flavours, aromas, experiences and traditions, spreading the story of Sicilian wines around the world.

The future? Of course, Scorace! The newest gem, a 20-hectare estate at 600 m above sea level, with an exceptional position and an unusual altitude for the area — no less than 600 meters above sea level. The first vines have already been planted on this soil: Perricone, Nero d’Avola, Grillo, and Lucido, which will in time bring the finest expression of the originality and character of Assulija.
