I inherited the family vineyards from my father in 1999. Winemaking has always been a passionate hobby of mine.
I'm probably one of the smallest winemakers in Slovenia. Total production is around 3,000 bottles a year.
Production of my own wines began in 2000. The Rogovila brand was created and launched to market in 2021.
In the vineyard and in the cellar I follow the principles of organic farming and winemaking, intervening in the wine as little as possible. I am not certified organic, due to the small scale of production.
To protect the vines I mainly use sulphur. Copper is used only in extreme cases, usually once or twice in a rainy spring.
The wines, too, are protected with only small amounts of sulphites.
Why Rogovila?
Our basic tool is a rogovila – a forked pitchfork.
Rogovílež -a m. (ȋ)
– one who causes noise or unrest, especially through their behaviour.
Rogoviliti:
– |to cause noise, unrest|: to kick up a racket around the house; The drunks are causing a ruckus; fig. rogoviliti proti komu/čemu – to rebel against, to resist someone/something.
