We are a boutique family winery. Our name means »something hidden and sacred«.

The owner of Sanctum is Mr. Marko Podkubovšek, a cosmopolitan wine lover who believes in local tradition and hand-crafted wines. Our vineyards stretch across the steep south-facing slopes of the hills above Loče, which boast a rich winegrowing tradition, as grapevines were already cultivated here by Carthusian monks in the 12th century.

We have a passion for world wines and world cuisine. Every year, Sanctum succeeds, through knowledge and precision, in producing ever better vintages — vintages in which the high minerality of the marl soil and the demanding aromatics of a cool climate shine through without compromise.

Because we don't burden our vineyards with any chemical agents, artificial fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides, our yield is smaller but our grapes are healthier. Our wines are made through spontaneous fermentation with their own natural yeasts. We don't strive for quantity, but for quality. We produce just 30,000 bottles a year. The main varieties are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, joined by Syrah, which thrives beautifully on this site.
